Phoebe is One

Hot on the heels of Will turning five, came Phoebe turning one.

This also completes the odd-number quartet as we now have a 7, a 5, a 3 and a 1.

I decided that we would have a typically Australian cake for her birthday - a Chocolate Ripple Cake. Apart from being quite possibly the tastiest cake I have ever eaten, this has the added advantage of having only two ingredients - Chocolate Ripple biscuits, and cream to sandwich it all together. You make it, put it in the fridge overnight, then consume with gusto. This is definitely a recipe I'll be taking home with me - though I'll have to find the perfect Chocolate Ripple biscuit replacement.... I did add some pink glitter sprinkles, but nothing else, which, considering my usual excesses, showed a remarkable level of restraint...

As you can see, Phoebe was extremely pleased with her cake, and also tried to eat the bowl, restyle her hair and give herself a face mask.

I thought I would show you all some other pictures of Phoebe at 1 - she is a funny, cheeky, stroppy, cuddly, chunky, gorgeous little minx with a love of headgear and climbing. Perhaps those two facts are somehow related and we should put a crash helmet on her every day, as the things she manages to climb on get higher and higher...

She would also appear to have passed through her ginger stage and come out the other side relatively unscathed (phew)- she's as blonde as the rest of them now, with 16 teeth, rosy cheeks and a big round tummy.

Not walking yet, but I don't think it's going to be long...
